Fall 2013 will witness the largest international scientific event on digital heritage in history, bringing together hundreds of researchers, educators, scientists, industry professionals and policy makers to debate, discuss and present digital technology applied to the protection, documentation, and understanding of humanity’s shared heritage. For the first time ever, under the patronage of UNESCO, the leading scientific and industry events from across the digital and heritage spheres will join together under one roof to explore the state-of-the-art and address future emerging research scenarios.

Organized by CNRS (french National Center for Scientific Research) on behalf of the MAP Laboratory, in collaboration with local research institutions Provence (Aix-Marseille University, Arts et Métiers ParisTech, CICRP, School of Architecture and INRIA), the Congress will be held in Marseille, France, the 2013 European Capital of Culture. The venue will be Marseille’s architecturally stunning new waterfront museum complex (the restored Fort Saint-Jean and adjoining new MuCEM and La Villa Mediterranée).

On the proposal of the International Association for Classical Archaeology (AIAC), the National Museum of Roman Art in Mérida has been chosen as the venue for its next international congress. Since the 1950s these meetings have been organised in different countries every five years by institutions of recognised prestige in the field of classical archaeology. They have become excellent vehicles for scientific projection and dissemination among the international community and are attended by the most eminent specialists, professional archaeologists and students from all over the world. They serve to define new points for scientific debate and to encourage contact between professionals on an international level.

The 18th International Congress of Classical Archaeology will be held in Mérida in May 2013. On this occasion the slogan will be “Centre and periphery in the ancient world” it will be jointly organised by the National Museum of Roman Art, the Government of Extremadura Department of Education and Culture and the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology, institutions of recognised prestige and projection and with a recognised track record in their specialities.

In addition to the scientific sessions, the congress will include complementary activities such as tours of the site of Augusta Emerita and the National Museum of Roman Art, as well as excursions programmed for the days following the congress. These will visit different sites and places of archaeological interest that played an important role in the Romanisation of the Iberian Peninsula in the Mérida area.

Between the 26^th and the 28t^h of June 2013,  the city of Lleida will once again become  the world capital of research and business in medieval history. Some of the leading medievalists from across the globe will take part in four congresses which focus on various key aspects of medieval history, art history, archaeology, literature and language. Specialists in a wide range of aspects of Medieval Studies will introduce their research at this meeting, while others will present sessions, individual papers and posters on different aspects of research in the history of the Middle Ages. There will also be sessions dedicated to the promotion and management of research, the application of new technologies in the Humanities and the promotion of historical heritage. Furthermore, there will be important presentations concerning the publication and dissemination of research in medieval history.
